Mongu, capital of Zambia’s remote Western Province near the Angolan border, serves as the gateway to Liuwa Plain National Park, located roughly 75 kilometers northwest. The town is most renowned for the Kuomboka ceremony, an annual April event that commemorates the ceremonial relocation of the Lozi royal court from its dry-season palace at Lealui to the higher ground of Limulunga during the Zambezi River floods.
