Mihrimah Sultan Mosque (Mihrimah Sultan Camii)

Commissioned in the 16th century by Suleiman the Magnificent for his daughter, the Mihrimah Sultan Mosque (Mihrimah Sultan Camii) stands in the Edirnekapi district of Istanbul. Designed by the renowned Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan, the mosque is distinguished by its numerous windows that allow sunlight to filter through, creating a dappled, luminous interior. Topped by a monumental dome, the structure deviates from the typical imperial mosques by featuring only one minaret. Visitors today can admire the interplay of light and shadow within the serene, spacious prayer hall, a testament to Sinan’s architectural genius.
